Malibu Hills Murder (A Zuma SEALs Novel (Malibu Adventure Series) Book 1) by Deborah Garner {Book Review}

February 13, 2018 by Leila | 1 Comment

Disclosure: I received an ebook copy of this book and have volunteered to share my review. All the opinions are 100% my own.

NEW RELEASE….

A year ago, if anyone had told Zach Lazarro he’d settle anywhere other than the Florida Keys, he’d have laughed in their face. Yet here he is in SoCal, launching a private investigations firm with two ex-SEAL buddies, settling into a long-term relationship with L.A. county’s hottest assistant district attorney, Avalon Rossi.

Figures he’d be the one to flush ZSI’s make-or-break job down the toilet. Now his rich, powerful client’s allegedly unfaithful wife is dead. And the evidence isn’t the only thing with gaping holes in it.

When it turns out one of ZSI’s own is a suspect, it’ll take more than fast talking to keep him from taking the fall. And another victim from landing in the morgue.

Leels Loves Books Book Reviews

I have said it before and I will say it again. I don’t read what a book is about, I judge a book by the cover. Imagine my surprise when I started reading the book and the first name I saw was Zach Lazarro. (Needless to say, I was none to happy. I am still upset with him over what transpired with Madison.)

If you are lost, let me back up a smidgen.

I love Deborah Brown and have read the entire Paradise Series that she writes that involves a Miss Madison Westin. When Madison first moved to Tarpon Cove, she met Zach and they dated. They had, what we all assumed was a serious relationship.

SPOILER ALERT (if you haven’t read the Paradise Series)

Things didn’t work out for Zach and Madison. In a bad way. In a way that left a sour note for me with Zach.

He had secrets that involved an ex-wife (maybe she was current at the time) and a son. Things Madison knew nothing about so when said wife and son show up; imagine my anger!

Regardless of the book being about Zach and his new company Zuma S.E.A.L.S. in California; I loved the new characters and the story.

The characters are great. Deborah has a thing with names so the names were all unique (Cable, Slice, Lark, Avalon, Alura) but it makes the characters seem so much better in my mind. They are all unique in personality as well as in name.

Zach’s business is private investigation (something I love doing) and it’s his first big case that they are hoping to grow their business on. Unfortunately, they don’t expect what they fall into.

Zuma SEALS was quite the interesting read. It was a little sickening, honestly, but the thing I really liked is that Deborah hints at the gross and the sexual, but doesn’t give details so it isn’t gross or gory. She gives you just enough that you can imagine what is going on without having to share the grizzly details.

This was a very short read – only 14 chapters – and I finished it within a matter of an hour or two.

I highly recommend anything from Deborah Brown and Zuma SEALS should be included!

About the Author
I’ve been writing, in one way or another for as long as I can remember; writing poetry, short stories, a romance novel secretly stashed under the bed and sappy love letters. Fiction should be fun. I wanted to create the perfect beach book, to make the reader laugh, cry and cheer… and then run out and tell their friends about it.

My love of reading began when I was seven, the day I opened the cover of my first Mrs. Piggle Wiggle book. Mrs. P gave lessons to other children in how to behave and to me I learned to love the written word. I live with my family and demon children aka rescue cats in South Florida.
