The Last Thing She Said (A Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery #3) by Lauren Carr {Book Review}

October 31, 2019 by Leila | Leave a Comment

Disclosure: I received this book to review through iRead Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

The Last Thing She Said (A Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery #3) by Lauren Carr {Book Review}“I’m working on the greatest mystery ever,” was the last thing noted mystery novelist Mercedes Livingston said to seven-year-old Chris Matheson before walking out of Hill House Hotel never to be seen again.

For decades, the writer’s fate remained a puzzling mystery until an autographed novel and a letter put a grown-up Chris Matheson on the trail of a cunning killer. With the help of a team of fellow retired law enforcement officers, each a specialist in their own field of investigation, Chris puts a flame to this cold case to uncover what had really happened that night Mercedes Livingston walked out of Hill House Hotel. Watch out! The clues are getting hot!

“Too many twists and turns to easily share about this book. Nevertheless, Carr has pulled off another “hit” that kept me reading in one setting until the clues were so well together that the villain fell into our laps…or Chris’s, LOL Carr has put a lot into the book beyond the mysteries this time…Characters enjoyed chocotinis, visited book stores…and even blundered into getting engaged (the ring had been purchased 4 months ago)… But, for me, a special thank you for the political spoof at a time when politics at the national level is devastating, gave me a laugh and lightened the load of it all!” – Review by Glenda Bixler, Book Reader’s Heaven

Leels Loves Books Book Reviews

Another amazing mystery from Lauren, but I think I am getting better at solving her mysteries! {Keyword: maybe}

I loved that we got to put all of the characters together – first and foremost. We had Chris and his family, Robin Spencer, Mac and Archie, Joshua and Cameron – it was like a big reunion and I loved every second of it!

The book starts in the past with a glimpse into an event in Chris’ childhood that comes back to be a real life mystery for him and the Geezer Squad to solve. What we run into along the way is a lot of craziness! Not to mention, the issue of Helen’s ex-husband turning up and causing a ruckus too!

I loved the history behind the mystery and trying to figure out what was what after all these years and how people thought one thing but it was really something else.

I had an inkling on one suspect and knew we would find them as who they were and I was quite suspicious of the second suspect but Lauren’s books always keep me on my toes. Even when I have inklings, I could never prove how it came to be and let me tell you – I’m not sure my imagination could even keep up with the stories that come out these mysteries!

The Last Thing She Said was another amazing mystery read by Lauren and I cannot wait to keep reading more!

Came home the other day and saw an envelope that s Came home the other day and saw an envelope that said "happy birthday". I got excited that someone sent me an early birthday card...

...except it wasn't for me. It was for Gibbs, our husky... who's birthday is 3 days before mine.

Guess that's what happens when you share your birthday week with the dog. 🤷‍♀️
I personally haven't seen this guy in about a week I personally haven't seen this guy in about a week, but thankfully, hubby saw him yesterday and snapped a pic for me. I swear; Bear gives the cresties a run for their money when it comes to hide and seek!! 🤣
The newest zoo member... not *exactly* what I was The newest zoo member... not *exactly* what I was looking for color wise (I was looking for a gray/lavender, and they seem more red), but I am def smitten. 🥰

This baby is a little spazzy at first but then loves to just chill and sit with me. They aren't quite as jumpy as Aspen (and def friendlier! Aspen still HATES being touched!)

Also, I'm not sure they were well cared for. Breeder said hatch date was 9-8-2022, but they are tiny! Not even the length of my pointer finger!

Anyway, welcome, Leif (pronounced Leaf; thank you, Kadenn...) to the zoo!
Releasing tomorrow!! 😍 I cannot wait!! Releasing tomorrow!! 😍

I cannot wait!!
Pics do not do this baby justice!! And Schuyler i Pics do not do this baby justice!!

And Schuyler is so much more chill than Aspen. I've been able to at least touch them daily and last night, they let me hold them!! HUGE difference from Aspen the spaz who wants no one in her space, none the less touching her! 🤣🤣
