[show-book title=”How to Raise a Smart Ass”]
The title of this book was right up my alley and considering kids; I was expecting laugh out loud humor. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.
This is a quick read so it doesn’t take long to go through it and while some of the stories were cute and some funny; my expectations were much higher (which is not the author or the books fault. I just expected with a title about ‘How to Raise a Smart Ass’ – it would be much funnier.)
I felt a lot of the book was a memoir of sorts, but not necessarily a memoir of the author as a parent. There was a lot of back story, a lot of boring information that I didn’t feel was quite necessary. I definitely would have liked to hear more about her as a parent and the kids’ funny moments (well, funny to a parent but not necessarily grandma.)
I did, however, feel like the author and I had a lot of similar stories when it came to labor, pregnancy – that fun jazz.
Overall, I wasn’t really impressed, but that doesn’t mean you won’t like it. It just wasn’t what I was expecting. I recommend giving it a try and seeing for yourself how you feel. I may not read this particular book again, but I would read another book from this author.
