Black Orchid Girls by Carolyn Arnold {Book Review}

February 16, 2022 by Leila | Leave a Comment

Black Orchid Girls is book four in the Detective Amanda Steele series and they just keep getting better and better.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary e-book copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are 100% my own unless otherwise noted.

The first rays of sun filter through the tall trees, casting a faint light on the girl lying at the water’s edge. Her tears have frozen on her pale face, a black orchid rests against her cold white skin.

When hikers find the body of a beautiful young girl on the banks of the Potomac River, Detective Amanda Steele is shaken and confused. What is the significance of the delicate flower resting on the girl’s torso? A sign of affection, or a twisted killer’s calling card?

The girl is Chloe Somner, a local nineteen-year-old ecology student well-known to the park rangers and loved by all her classmates. Searching Chloe’s home, Amanda can’t work out who could have tempted her to the water in the early hours of the morning, but a long night hunting through cold cases gives her a possible lead: twenty years ago another local girl was murdered, a red rose left on her body. But why would this killer strike again now?

Focused on the past, the last thing Amanda expects is the news that Chloe’s roommate has been found dead, another black orchid left. Terrified that more innocent victims will follow, can Amanda uncover the significance of the flowers and stop this cold-hearted killer before he returns for the next orchid girl…?

A totally compulsive crime thriller! Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine.

Leels Loves Books Book Reviews

I have missed Amanda and Trent and all their crime solving!

There is something in the air and I am starting to think it’s not just murder!

Carolyn Arnold is one of my favorite mystery writers! She leaves me hanging on and guessing until the very end and let me tell you; Black Orchid Girls was no different. I thought I had our suspect pegged from the get-go, but wow!

We had a lot of clues, plenty of suspects, and a crime that just kept on giving… and may have given long before now!

Carolyn Arnold has the most fabulous way of putting you right there with Amanda and Trent – immersing you in the crime scene while you work through the puzzle of determining who the killer is.

Each book in the Detective Amanda Steele series can be read as a stand alone without too much confusion, but they really have been a treat to read together and in order. Carolyn does an amazing job at bringing new readers up to date if you missed passed books, but I will tell you now; once you start one, you’re going to want to go back and read the others. They really are that good!

Came home the other day and saw an envelope that s Came home the other day and saw an envelope that said "happy birthday". I got excited that someone sent me an early birthday card...

...except it wasn't for me. It was for Gibbs, our husky... who's birthday is 3 days before mine.

Guess that's what happens when you share your birthday week with the dog. 🤷‍♀️
I personally haven't seen this guy in about a week I personally haven't seen this guy in about a week, but thankfully, hubby saw him yesterday and snapped a pic for me. I swear; Bear gives the cresties a run for their money when it comes to hide and seek!! 🤣
The newest zoo member... not *exactly* what I was The newest zoo member... not *exactly* what I was looking for color wise (I was looking for a gray/lavender, and they seem more red), but I am def smitten. 🥰

This baby is a little spazzy at first but then loves to just chill and sit with me. They aren't quite as jumpy as Aspen (and def friendlier! Aspen still HATES being touched!)

Also, I'm not sure they were well cared for. Breeder said hatch date was 9-8-2022, but they are tiny! Not even the length of my pointer finger!

Anyway, welcome, Leif (pronounced Leaf; thank you, Kadenn...) to the zoo!
Releasing tomorrow!! 😍 I cannot wait!! Releasing tomorrow!! 😍

I cannot wait!!
Pics do not do this baby justice!! And Schuyler i Pics do not do this baby justice!!

And Schuyler is so much more chill than Aspen. I've been able to at least touch them daily and last night, they let me hold them!! HUGE difference from Aspen the spaz who wants no one in her space, none the less touching her! 🤣🤣
