Leels Loves Books Book Reviews

I love John Mefford. He writes thrillers so well!

I felt like AT Large started where AT Bay left off, but not so much that you had to have read the first one to follow the second (it just makes life a little easier. Besides, you don’t want to miss anything written by John!)

It has been awhile between the first book and now so I didn’t remember all the details, but I was quickly reminded.

I still have yet to figure out any of John’s books before he tells me and I love that! I love the challenge of trying to figure out and then not getting it and then of course, there is always some whacky twist and this one left me speechless!

Although – a little note for the author – the actual ending actually ticked me off because I’m not 100% sure who was there… I have an idea, but knowing how the books are, I am probably wrong… which worries me!

I cannot wait for the next installment and more Alex. I have always loved John’s characters, but I really love Alex. I think I can relate to her a bit more and would love to work with her!

AT Bay (Alex Troutt Thriller series #1)

Alexandra Giordano never knew she had it so good. Until it was all gone in an instant.

As she begins her daunting quest to uncover the black spots on her memory, what she finds isn’t sweet or charming or even pleasant. And that’s when she begins to question everything, including herself.

Her work as a Special Agent for the FBI is only a distraction, serving as a mental metronome…anything to crank the gears of her feeble mind.

And then it happens—a bizarre, ritualistic murder. She loses herself in her work, fully immersed in the investigation. Unable to recall even her own kids, she’s somehow able to formulate coherent theories on what type of person could pull off such a sickening act.

As her mind slowly plugs a few memory gaps, her emotions are scrambled by the reality of her worlds colliding. And the resulting explosion tears her in two.

Can she pick up all the incendiary fragments to solve the twisted crime while she clings to some semblance of sanity?

One woman can only keep so much…AT Bay.

About the Author
A veteran of the corporate wars, former journalist, and true studier of human and social behavior, best-selling author John W. Mefford has been writing novels since he first entered the work force twenty-five years ago, although he never put words on paper until late 2009.

John writes novels full of intrigue, suspense, and thrills, but they also evoke an emotional connection with the characters.

When he’s not writing, he chases three kids around, slaves away in the yard, reads, takes in as many sports as time allows, watches all sorts of movies, and continues to make mental notes of people and societies across the land.

John lives in Frisco, Texas with his beautiful wife, three opinionated kids, and a feisty fat cat who rules the world.

I have decided they are my emotional support animal! 🤣

Tonight, they ate right off my finger! I didn't think I could fall in more in love!! 🥰

...except it wasn't for me. It was for Gibbs, our husky... who's birthday is 3 days before mine.

Guess that's what happens when you share your birthday week with the dog. 🤷‍♀️
I personally haven't seen this guy in about a week I personally haven't seen this guy in about a week, but thankfully, hubby saw him yesterday and snapped a pic for me. I swear; Bear gives the cresties a run for their money when it comes to hide and seek!! 🤣

This baby is a little spazzy at first but then loves to just chill and sit with me. They aren't quite as jumpy as Aspen (and def friendlier! Aspen still HATES being touched!)

Also, I'm not sure they were well cared for. Breeder said hatch date was 9-8-2022, but they are tiny! Not even the length of my pointer finger!

Anyway, welcome, Leif (pronounced Leaf; thank you, Kadenn...) to the zoo!
